PhotoShop Has Nothing on the 50's...A Thursday Night Fluff Piece

I should probably be talking about the Obamacare Supreme Court story this week, however, my much brainier colleagues with the SLOB’s have already done a superb job tackling the issue HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE

Instead, this lovely Thursday evening is dedicated to getting a little bitchy about an Arizona legislator who has no idea that women have survived generations of PhotoShop-like manipulation of the ideal female form.

Earlier this month Beers with Demo shared a video from reason.tv about Nanny of the Month, Arizona state Rep, Katie Hobbs (D-Phoenix), who wants to ban ads using models who have been Photoshop-enhanced without a warning label.

And we must need these disclaimers because there is so much technology these days that we will never see a real woman in print again! Oh, if only it could be like the olden days of real women in print.

Or maybe not.

Stumbled across THIS gem on Pinterest last night... “Pin-Up Girls Before & After, 1950’s.” Side-by-side photos of the actual models for the iconic mid-century illustrations. And, oh my God, you’ll never guess! These girls were painted thinner and prettier than they were in real life!! Grandma, say it isn’t so! How did she ever get out of bed each day with these unrealistic standards filling the imaginations of men with impossible beauty?

Ms. Hobbs will be crushed to find out we all know her self-righteous campaign to protect mindless young girls is really retaliation for the fact that no one told her that the right hair cut and a good push-up bra can make almost any woman sexy. Try some extensions and stop sporting the men’s wear because you're plenty pretty and there’s still time for you, Katie.

Wolf Blitzer Misses the Whole Point of the Hunger Games

In a live interview, Wolfie tried uber-hard to pin a gotcha moment on Mitt Romney for taking his grandchildren to the Hunger Games. “It’s PG-13. Is it a little too violent for young kids?”

Having already read the popular teen-novel, Romney replied, “I think it’s a little disturbing for young kids, “ but that his grandkids are about 13 and everyone enjoyed it.

What I wish Mittens has said, and what I think Blitzer (and Statists everywhere) fears, is that the Hunger Games is about Freedom....with a healthy dose of battling evil with honor...and a plot driven by the importance of knowing how to hunt, skin, and eat animals.

So go ahead, W.B, be the nanny all you want, meanwhile millions and millions of teenagers everywhere cannot get enough of this story.

P.S. Just Google “Hunger Games Freedom” ...I promise it will make you smile.

Possible Hooker Hook-up Gone Wrong? Kobulnicky Plot Thickens

The San Diego Union Tribune is reporting that (inaccurately labelled Tea Party Rapist) Michael John Kobulnicky's attorney reports that the accused admits picking up the 56-year-old alleged victim while she was hitchhiking near Tait Street. He drove her to Fiesta Island where they had a consensual sexual encounter.

And now there are conflicting reports that the 'victim' has told friends she made up the story while reporting to select media outlets that the police arrested the wrong man.

OK, let's break this down:

1) 56-year-old-woman hitchhiking at night

2) Consensual sexual encounter.

3) Victim back peddling on story.

Does anyone else think this sounds like prostitute/john drama? That's just my alleged theory anyway (ok, my husband called it two days ago, but you get the idea).

SIDE NOTE: This is exactly why we've tried our best to keep So Cal Tax Revolt Coalition (the ORIGINAL home and organizers of the San Diego tea party)small and bear bones. No committees, public meetings, no speakers we haven't googled and given the hinky-meter-intuition-once-over. Individual people cannot be the face of the movement...because all people are flawed, all people have skeletons. We put principles and ideas on a pedestal, and try in our human, imperfect way, to live up to them.

UK Schools Ban "Best Friends"

According UK's The Sun, in some elementary schools, "Teachers are banning schoolkids from having best pals — so they don't get upset by fall-outs."

So they can, what? Learn that close, personal relationships are bad? Can't wait to see how these kids fare in committed romance later in life. But I do suppose that would make Mother Government much more important in their lives. It's a Brave New World, indead.

Accused Rapist, Michael John Kobulnicky, Not Spokesperson, Member, or Volunteer for Original San Diego Tea Party Organizers, So Cal Tax Revolt Coalition

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!

So Cal Tax Revolt Coalition (SCTRC) is the original home and organizers of of San Diego tea party events and activism, including the first local tea party on February 27th, 2009, annual Tax Day Tea Parties, and over 40 rallies, protests, petition drives, film screenings, and educational seminars.

We are not affiliated with, nor have we worked with the newer organization titled “San Diego Tea Party.” We are not familiar with self-proclaimed “spokesperson” for that organization, Michael John Kobulnicky of Lemon Grove. He has never been an organizer, speaker, or volunteer for our company or events. We do not know what his actual involvement is with the other tea party organization. We are not familiar with the Mission Valley Tea Party that Kobulnicky reported to have founded.

Leslie Eastman, SCTRC Media Director states: What I find fascinating is that the some in the media wish to rush into reporting that a person is a “Tea Party Leader” or otherwise active member without fully vetting the subject whenever there is a potential criminal case. A simple background check would have found that Kobulnicky essentially took a leave from the “San Diego Tea Party” in January and had neither interacted nor worked with them since that time. Furthermore, a fair-minded reporter who was well-informed about “Tea Party” activism would recognize that there are no “Tea Party Leaders”. Some individuals may proclaim this status; however, anyone following today’s citizen activism would be astute enough to view such claims with a healthy degree of skepticism.

This is a blatant example of the blatant double standard taken by some journalists. There have been dozens of brutal rape cases associated with the “Occupy Wall Street” movement. Specifically, those crimes have occurred in camps during their designated protest activities. Yet, many press reports have minimized brutality associated with the dozens of reports that are known. And the news reports don’t try to paint the suspects as “Occupy Wall Street Leaders.”

So Cal Tax Revolt Coalition is an organization founded and run by women, and we consider rape and all forms of sexual assault to be violent, unacceptable crimes. We expect anyone found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of serious, violent crimes to be sentenced accordingly. We trust that the San Diego Police Department will follow the case fully and professionally, and that all due process will be observed and justice will prevail.

Sincerely,
The co-founders of the Southern California Tax Revolt Coalitions:
Sarah Bond
Chief Executive Officer

Dawn Wildman
President

Leslie Eastman
Media Director

Dork in Sweater Vest Wants to Ban Porn

Considering Ricky Boy's somewhat improved, but lingering, Google problem, the last thing you'd think he'd be doing is drawing attention to sex in any way shape or form (ahem). However, he remains stupifyingly detached from pop culture...or the economy, for that matter...and has declared a War on Porn.

It's a mute point anyway...who's going to be able to afford an internet connection for 'illegal porn'once gas hits $9/gallon?

It’s the Economy, Stupid!

Both Democrat and Republican leaders completely miss the reason Obama’s approval numbers are down despite SlutGate.

Goddess Mutodjmet (aka Leslie Eastman) at Temple of Mut, and my far more articulate partner in crime at So Cal Tax Revolt Coaltion, expands on the situation HERE.

Environmentalists Hate Poor People*

When lawmakers such as Congresswoman Karen Bass (CA33) allow their spokesman to make statements like, “The environment is much more important than jobs,” the President’s Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, says “Somehow, we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” there is no way we can view environmental elitists and anything less than vultures willing to feed on America’s poor. There is no moderation and absolutely no humanity in today’s draconian energy policies and regulations.

Fellow SLOB, Word Warrior of So Cal has an excellent essay on just how bad it’s gotten.

At the end of the day, how can anyone justify a $50 light bulb? Try, I dare you.

* I have to admit that I borrowed this from Mark Meckler who once asked an interviewer who pressed him on the moral superiority of environmental mandates, “Why do you hate poor people so much?” Which left said pundit speechless.

UT Includes Tea Party in Piece About Gas Price Frustration

Christopher Cadelago at the San Diego Union Tribune interviewed me earlier this week for a piece on local anger regarding high gas prices. The article does a very fair job of voicing a spectrum of political opinion on the matter. Please check it out, leave comments with the article, and FB and Tweet so that the paper will continue to reach out to taxpayers and the tea party.

Defending KONY 2012...With Eyes Wide Open

The Kony 2012 campaign, conceived by San Diego based charity, Invisible Children, has successfully gone viral in under 48 hours. If you haven’t seen the video, clear the next 30 minutes and view it HERE.

Though the story is not new, in the last day or so, millions have just learned of Joseph Kony and the horrors of his war crimes. Kidnapping upwards of 30,000 children over 30 years...turning the girls into sex slaves and the boys into child soldiers. A swath of mutilation and brutal murder across central Africa.

So a campaign to bring about awareness of this guy is good, right?

Not so, according to several critics, including some from inside Uganda and Africa. The Guardian has an excellent blog piece cataloging a wide range of views and facts on the issue. Worth the read, I promise. But here are the basic problems folks seem to have:

1) Kony is no longer in Uganda as portrayed in the video...he’s now in DRC, South Sudan and the Central African Republic.

2) Kony’s forces are not as large as they used to be.

3) Many have tried to capture Kony in the past and it is naive to think that new efforts will be effective.

4) Sharing Kony’s story paints an ugly stereotype of Africa.

5) Charities in Uganda want funding for their current local efforts, not for campaigns to chase down a warlord who is no longer a threat in their backyard.

6) The video over-simplifies the situation.

7) It’s all about the director’s ego and white knight syndrome.

8) The video is meant to appeal to Americans instead of focusing on what Africans at-large can do to solve the problem.

9) The video does not show the injustices of the ‘legitimate’ military forces in the effected nations.

10) The video does not explain that oil and other valuable natural resources are at stake in the region.

11) The video advocates convicting Kony in international courts, ignoring the cultural need for Uganda to hold their own trial.

And to all of the above, I say, “so what?”

The video is pure, glossy propaganda meant to pull at your heart strings. And I think it’s PURE GENIUS. Surprised?

The Guardian’s film critic Peter Bradshaw puts it best:

Maybe Jason Russell's web-based film Kony 2012, calling for international action to stop the Ugandan war criminal Joseph Kony, can't be considered great documentary-making. But as a piece of digital polemic and digital activism, it is quite simply brilliant.
It's a slick, high-gloss piece of work, distributed on the Vimeo site, the upscale version of YouTube for serious film-makers. And its sensational, exponential popularity growth on the web is already achieving one of its stated objectives: to make Kony famous, to publicise this psychopathic warlord's grotesque crimes – kidnapping thousands of children and turning them into mercenaries, butchers and rapists.
It does not stick to the conventions of impartial journalism in the BBC style. It is partisan, tactless and very bold. But it could be seen as insufferably condescending, a way of making US college kids feel good about themselves. And is Jason Russell scared to come out and admit that effective action entails an old-fashioned boots-on-soil invasion of a landlocked African country, with all the collateral damage that this implies?

Yah, I have my suspicions about how any donations might be spent. I probably won’t be sending these guys a check anytime soon. But the basic message is worth spreading. Because here’s the thing, Kony is a bad guy. THE single, overall point of this campaign is to make him famous. So what if he’s moved to Sudan instead of Uganda...he’s evil and everyone should know that. This campaign does just that. A kick-ass logo, slick video, easy website, and genius action plan help too.

And frankly, I’m jealous. Republicans suck at this sort of thing. Well crafted multi-media campaign...why bother...let’s just slap up an 80’s-ish logo, walk some precincts and compare bad suits. Only Carl DeMaio may buck the trend and learn something from these guys.

Will the campaign stop Kony once and for all? Maybe, maybe not. Will this cause unforeseen problems? Probably. But anyone who wants to drill in Northern Uganda/Southern Sudan will know that we all know a little more about that part of the world, and maybe...just maybe, they will try to be better stewards of that region.

At the end of the day I really only have one genuine criticism of the video and campaign: it glosses over the fact that is is going to take military action and violence to find and capture Joseph Kony. Most of the early supporters of Invisible Children and and Kony 2012 are peace-nicks. Do they realize that to ‘arrest’ Kony, someone is going to have to shoot their way through his human shield of child soldiers? If we’re going to insert ourselves into someone else’s problem for the greater good, let’s try to be honest about the cost.

Left Shoots Their Women’s-Health-Wad Too Soon

Many think Obama and the Left intentionally bated Conservatives into the birth control/ sexual ethics conversation with their Contraception Mandate last month. And for a glorious week the Right focused on the Constitution and beat the Administration into a corner. We had them pinned. Their strategy backfired.

Then...

Santorum just couldn’t hold it in anymore. Social conservatives were weak with temptation. Over two years of sticking to tea party economics had them all pent up and the social-issues conversation exploded...everywhere.

Like Pee Wee Herman at a peep show, the Left was all aquiver! Late night and SNL had a field day. Finally the Right was playing into their hands and following the game book. Republicans hate sex...the election is won!

But something happened they didn’t count on. Rush Limbaugh got caught up in the fever too...and got carried away by calling Sandra Fluke a ‘slut’ and ‘prostitute.’ Now we know he wasn’t really calling her those things, he was making a larger point...but it didn’t matter, it was enough to frenzy the media and sponsors. But here is where it all went terribly wrong...

Rush apologized.

And now its over.

The 2012 social conservatism fever is spent. The bubble has burst. There’s nowhere left to lay pipe. There’s nothing left to feed the kitty. Santorum’s momentum is gone. Romney never really got caught up in it in a headline making manner, and now we are diving back into the economy. $5 gas, unemployment, falling home prices, inflation.

So, good job Leftist Pimps. You got everyone all hot and bothered too soon, and, like a college girl after a one-night-stand, you have nothing to show for it. Co-eds who want free condoms aren’t much of a voting block. But moms who struggle to put food on the table with $5+ gas...do.

P.S. B-Daddy and Beers With Demo expand on how, like V.D., the left might now how lingering problems on their hands.

P.P.S. It would be nice if the Left would reciprocate and apologize for calling married women prostitutes all these years...but I won’t hold my scanky breath.
