If you hate Chick-Fil-A for being Christian, better boycott In-N-Out too!

UPDATE: I am by no means a great writer, or even a particularly good one...sometimes a girl just has to vent! But my friends the SLOB's are exceptional writers, and Beers with Demo has an elegant and biting post on this Chick-fil-A insanity, please check it out.

Let me start by stating that I am not a Christian and I do support gay marriage. Took a while to get to this place, but I don't believe gay marriage to be an erosion of family sovoreignty (of course this piece of lunacy out of Cali might contradict me...and I do think the coming tide of plural marriage is an offense to women everywhere).

Enter the Chick-Fil-A uproar. Co-Founder Dan Cathy was recently asked about the company’s charitable support of organizations that promote traditional marriage. He said, “Well, guilty as charged....We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

OK...Chick-Fil-A donates to Christian organizations that support traditional marriage.

Does Chick-Fil-A discriminate against gay customers or potential employees?

Chicago area franchise owner, Lauren Silich, states that she is dedicated to, “serving all of our guests with honor, dignity and respect. . . . We alone created 97 jobs this past year and our passion is building leaders for future generations, regardless of sexual orientation or beliefs.... We hold fundraisers for hospitals, schools, fallen police, and we donate to a wide variety of causes, including everything from churches to gay and lesbian organizations.”

Soooooo...sounds like the restaurants do NOT discriminate against gay customers or employees.

Yet Chicago authorities have announce that a second Chick-Fil-A will not be allowed to open in the city because the company discriminates.

Wait...what?

Mayor Rahm Emanual said, “Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago values. They’re not respectful of our residents, our neighbors and our family members. And if you’re gonna be part of the Chicago community, you should reflect Chicago values” (what values? Like being the murder capital of America?)

OK, so the company doesn’t actually discriminate...but they will be blocked because of what the CEO thinks. Just let that sink in for a moment.

Of course Rahm Emanual is a gigantic hypocrite, rolling out the red carpet for anti-semite homophobe Louis Farrakhan.

What about any Hispanic Catholic owned businesses in Chicago? I bet the owners believe in traditional marriage, even if they treat all customers the same.

Or Muslim owned companies...led by folks who thing homosexuality is a sin against God...but must open their doors to everyone.

What's really going on? Who didn’t make the right Chicago-values donation to the right Chicago campaign? Or is Rahm making a sad final attempt to stir up the social divide for his buddy Barry?

The always tasteful Roseanne Barr added to the fray by Tweeting, “anyone who eats Shit Fil-A deserves to get the cancer that is sure to come from eating antibiotic filled tortured chickens 4Christ.” Classy! Oh, wait, she was corned into apologizing when she realized her statement had been screen captured by the world.

I'm pro-life (that's right pro-gay marriage and pro-life...what can I say I'm for love and the innocent)...should I start a ban on any businesses run by folks who beleive their bodies are more important than being responsible for the choices they make? Run them out of town for a Belief? Even if they treat me with dignity as a customer? Not in the America I know and love.

Now what? No more Christian run businesses? The Thought Police win?

Then it’s time to shut down beloved So-Cal founded In-N-Out Burger...a private corporation run by a Christian family. While there have never been accusations of discriminations against gay customers or employees, the owners have Christian THOUGHTS. They even print the numbers to Bible passages on their packaging! (GASP!!!). No, you like Double Doubles and In-N-Out is a sacred pop-culture institution? Well, ok, then. Carry on.

P.S. Wonder how many people hating on Chick-Fil-A this week have this bumper sticker on their cars?

Standing by International Criminal in his Fight Against ACTA

Accused copyright pirate, Kim Dotcom, has launched a song and video urging Americans to NOT vote for Obama this fall...that the aggressive support of ACTA, the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, makes the President a parasite of Free Speech. And he's 100% correct.

So far reaching that Doctors Without Borders oppose ACTA because it will make medicine more difficult to import. Even access to food and seed stock will be impacted.

And I'm no novice to Intellectual Property. As an artist, I've spent many years working with licencing and copyright. I've had my work 'borrowed' without credit. WE ALREADY HAVE LAWS TO DEAL WITH THIS. The last thing we need is broad, vague, secrative powers on an international level. Thanks to a start from Bush, and Obama's unwaivery support, America is now a co-signer.

We all know this is REALLY about stopping the ability of people like you and me from sharing news stories and videos at will...of making what I'm doing right here, blogging (and Tweeting and Facebook Sharing) crimes. International crimes.

So I stand with Mr. Dotcom on this one, Occupyers and all (gasp). Song is a bit of an earworm, but can't beat the message.

As he says, "If you can't blog - tweet. If you can't tweet - like. But by all means - keep sharing."

Farewell, Sally Ride

I remember this song made a comeback (on account of the chorus, of course...I mean no disrepect with the other lyrics) when Sally Ride took her historic ride into space. She was one of the greats who helped us glimps the heavens. May her soul rest there now.

Jailhouse Justice...Theater Shooter Target of Fellow Inmates

“Kid Killer! Kid Killer! Kid Killer!”

That was the threatening welcome fellow inmates of the Colorado Arapahoe Detention Center gave unapologetic James Holmes when he arrived at the jailhouse Saturday.

It is long standing prison and pop-culture knowledge that inmates hate child killers and pedophiles. The unforgivable murder of 6-year-old Veronica Moser during the killing spree has caught the special attention of fellow prisoners.

Just released inmate Wayne Medley told the Daily News, “All the inmates were talking about killing him. Everyone was looking for an opportunity. It’s all they could talk about.

Another inmate, Dima Danilov, said that if Holmes were sent into general jail population, “he won’t live to see Monday’s court appearance.”

Dare to dream.

Occupy LA Targets…Artists?

Every second Thursday of the month, artists and Los Angles businesses host one of the largest and most successful Downtown Art Walk’s in the nation. Music, food, art…professional artist trying to connect with average consumers in capitalism-friendly setting. Sounds like something the pro-99% Occupiers should be all for, right?

Well, maybe not.

In a story little reported outside Los Angeles, Occupy LA organized “Chalk Walk” at last week’s egalitarian event. They decided this was the appropriate context to protest the corporate real estate downtown, the gentrification of the residential buildings, something inexplicable to do with wiki-leaks, and a general need to ruin anything normal folks might enjoy, like clean parks and unobstructed sidewalks…but I digress.

Sounds like things started out ok, chalking the sidewalks and street…technically illegal in California, but not generally enforced. But that wouldn’t do…time to chalk the sides of private buildings! Oh, and chant and rant so loudly that condo residents above the streets have to call the police. Visitors to Art Walk couldn’t use the sidewalks at the north end of the event. Bottles got thrown at police...four injured, one with a concussion.

Organizers of Art Walk report that many local businesses were unable to serve customers that night, hurting struggling 99%ers on what was supposed to be the busiest nights of the month.

In other words, being disruptive and probably downright scary to average families.

Local gallery owner, Nathan Cartwright, said:

I
don’t like the use of the Art Walk as a backdrop for a huge political rally," Cartwright said. "It hurts us; it hurts the actual galleries, the artists that are actually trying to make a professional living.

Local blogger and self described community activist , LA Cowboy, reported this response to his post on the subject:

I was there and the Occupy LA group caused MORE damage and fucked everything up for everyone else. Then some asshole got up on top of a food truck and riled up the entire crowd. Then another asshole started tagging it up. Uncalled for and definitely lame as hell. If this kind of chaos continues we need to shut down art walk people.

Twitchy thread HERE.

So, of course, LAPD needed move in to shut them down…a few rubber bullets deployed to drive the point home.

And you know what the predictably whinny Occupiers squealed? That is was unfair that children were allowed to chalk the sidewalks and that it was an un-equal application of the law. Seriously.

You go Occupy!! I’m sure artists and restaurant owners don’t mind one bit losing the chance to sell their wares so you can fight for…them?

P.S. Presser from Art Walk...

P.S. Turns out this is not the first time Occupy has targeted the arts for their special brand of naval gazing. In April, a subgroup of Occupy New York known as “Occupy Museums” protested the New York Frieze Art Fair for the ‘financialization” of the art world. A report claims that there should be a “free exchange of art” that relies on the barter system. I kid you not.

And in January OM went after MoMA for using non-union labor to install a Diego Rivera mural exhibit (while Rivera was a notorious Communist and regularly worked for the state, he was perfectly happy to commission large murals to private clients…and deny the paternity of his own child. I do actually love his Aztec, Deco, Cubism derived work, but again, I digress).

So what’s next for Occupy? Block public bus routes? De-fund HUD Housing? Shut down soup kitchens? Can’t wait to see!

New Romney Ad Shames "You Didn't Build That"

The new Romney campaign ad takes on Obama's rediculous, "You didn't build that," statement, highlighting a blue-collar business built on taking a risk and honest hard work. Sets just the right tone. From a pop-culture perspective, spot on!! Hope the campaign keeps more of this coming...
