Tea Party Girl Goes Solar?

“The polar bears can suck-it!”

Yep. That’s what I had to tell most of the solar vendors visiting our home. It’s not that I actually have anything against polar bears, they’re pretty efficient seal hunters. But I was shopping for cheaper fixed-priced energy. Period. I still think the concept of man-made global warming is a bunch of fabricated junk-science cr*#. I found that trying to ask a bunch washed out mortgage brokers re-trained as solar salesmen to fast forward past the green B.S. is like asking an overseas customer service rep to think for themselves.

Thankfully we found a vendor that was NOT a washed out mortgage broker, that actually ‘got’ us: San Diego County's own Cosmic Solar. Family run, knowledgable without the hard sale, tons of references, etc. Thumbs up.

After torturing the guys at Cosmic Solar for MONTHS we finally signed a VERY sweet lease deal via Sun Power. About $70 /month lower than our average electric bill, fixed payment, no $ down, no escalator purchase option, etc.*

And don't they look pretty?

So, why is the deal sooooooo good? Our friend over at Beers with Demo might have stumbled on the answer.

Will I burn in hell for sucking off highly tax payer subsidized energy products? Maybe. ok, Probably. But Cap-N-Trade just kicked in here in California and I’m not above selling my soul to survive it and everything else being shoved down our throats. And unlike most of America’s entitlement class, I promise to say to all of you who helped us pay for this, “thank you.” You’re all invited to watch my meter turn backwards.

*For the record, I don’t like any of our choices in the GOP primary, so I’m not doing this to help any of the others. We’re screwed no matter what. Yes, I’m Polly Sunshine.

While I do feel badly for Newt’s first wife, Jackie Battley, and daughters, when it comes to elections, I don’t really care about Newt’s affairs. I figure anyone sociopathic enough to want to be president is unlikely to be a faithful spouse. The pool we have to choose from generally sucks.

And I don’t feel the least bit sorry for Marianne Ginther with her sob story about how Newt cheated on her and left her eight months after being diagnosed with MS. She was the tramp he was sleeping with when he left his first wife...who was fighting cancer at the time. Sorta just sounds like Karma to me. (meow)

The REAL ick factor in all this is wife #3, Callista Bisek Gingrich, mistress during marriage #2 and potential First Lady of the United States. Just let that sink in for a minute.

I hold women to a higher standard then men. I’m hardly a prude, and stuff happens in marriages that is just between spouses. But the simple truth is, we are the gate keepers to societal standards around here...and I’m not interested in having to call some home wrecking hussy “First Lady.” She’s no lady and I don’t want her in my White House.

Beers With Demo beat me to the story of Washington D.C.’s new Wildlife Protection Act of 2010 that requires that outdoor rats and vermin NOT be killed, but humanely trapped, in FAMILIES and relocated (probably to Virginia) without stressing them in any way.

Yep.

That included the rats infesting the Occupy D.C. camp (and, no, I am not being euphemistic about the people infesting the camp).

So, I want to offer a stockpiling tip to my readers: get yourselves some of THESE while they are still legal (hey, if they can outlaw the lightbulb here in Opposite World, ANYTHING is possible, right?)...

Great Friends, Clear Voices

The rowdy pack of San Diego tea party-leaning bloggers better known as the SLOB’s have become very dear friends. Enough so that they helped me ring in my 40th last night with the classic pairing of pizza and beer while exchanging the latest in political and cultural gossip. Every time we get together I’m reminded of how amazing each of them is and why I love them so.

One moment was especially memorable. Charles at Doo Doo Economics brought his parents who are visiting from the Mid-West. At one point his lovely mother commented that is was a surprise and refreshing to listen to all of these varied Californians speak openly about their conservative and libertarian principles. And that really is a lesson we have all had to learn: that it’s ok to be overheard being conservative. The Tea Party helped us all come out of the conservative closet, and we will never be shamed back in due to false stereotypes or ugly generalizations. If the rest of the world never sees or hears us, how do they even know we exist?

So, in the spirit of Liberator Today, who gave me this beautiful bottle of “The Federalist Visionary,” freely share a toast with friends who bring out the best of who you are and who you know you should be.

A Better 2011 List of Sexiest Men of All Time

I have to admit, I like all those end of year lists that pop up the week after Christmas. But I’m ALWAYS annoyed by the “Sexiest Men of (insert year here)” because by-in-large they aren’t. Just not into pretty boys who dominate Hollywood. I can’t speak for gay men, but generally women need a little more than looks to go on.

But this was the last straw, Entertainment Weekly came out with their 25 Sexiest men of All Time. ALL time. #1 is Christian Bale. Easy on the eyes, but hottest man ever? Eric Bana…who is that? Orlando Bloom…nice elf, but really? Leonardo DiCaprio…shoot me now.

So I’ve come up with a much improved list of the Top 10 Sexiest Men of All Time. Gay or straight, I hope you enjoy…

#10 - Tom Selleck

It’s customary for these lists to contain celebrities, here’s our nod to pop culture…Tom “You-Will-Always-Be-Magnum-To-Us” Selleck…

We love him as an actor and in real life. Devoted family man, he graduated from USC on a basketball scholarship, served in the California Army National Guard during the Watts Riots. He became a Hollywood heart throb in the days before it became standard to wax men into shiny, hairless hermaphrodites. These days he wrangles his own avocado ranch, is a board member and spokes person for the NRA, and continues to light up the screen as a timeless All-American man.

#9 - Anyone who DOESN’T look like these losers…

Why would anyone is having sex with any of these people just makes me sad for humanity…and our gene pool.

#8 – Sci-Fi Anti-Hero’s

OK, time for TMI…I’m a geek. Not really into celebrities, but I love the characters they play. Especially the archetypal, Western inspired, science fiction Anti-Hero. Men who are conflicted by their own self-interest, but rise to do the right thing in the end. Not interested Harrison Ford one bit…love Han Solo. Do NOT want to know what Vin Diesel or Nathan Fillion are like in real life…but their characters in Pitch Black and Firefly (respectively) are pretty darn hunky. Does that make the writers the sexy ones? Sometimes fantasy is better than reality.

#7 – Teddy Roosevelt

Born an asthmatic child, but grew up to be one of the single most accomplished men in history. New York City police commissioner, Rough Rider and hero of the Spanish-American War, Vice President, youngest U.S. President, built up the Navy, established an independent Panama, forged the Panama Canal, won the Nobel Peace Prize for helping end the Russo-Japanese War, established our great National Forests and Parks. Family man, academic, adventurer…and if you can get past all that crazy face hair, pretty easy on the eyes.

#6 Mario Contreras, Stephen Kane and Carlos Partida

Just three normal Joe’s…construction workers pouring concrete at a Carlsbad elementary school when they heard gun shots. They looked up to see Brendan Liam O’Rourke shooting at a playground full of children. These hard working fathers didn’t hesitate for a moment when they ran toward the shooter and chased him on foot until Partida was able to jump in his pick-up and ram O’Rourke with the truck. Then a little good ‘ol fashioned fist party took place until they were sure the shooter was no longer a threat and police could take custody (thank God, no students were killed, but two second grade girls were injured before the shooter was ‘subdued.’

#5 One Seriously Badass Japanese Dude

Thanks to our friend Beers With Demo, we learned of Hideaki Akaiwa…unbelievable real life hero. Following the earthquake and tsunami that devastated his town of Ishinomaki, Japan, he managed to find SCUBA gear and dove into freezing cold, oncoming waves to to find and rescue his wife from their mostly submerged home. And then went back in to find his mother. And then back to find anyone else still alive in the wreckage.

What kind of man do YOU want to be married to when the world ends?

#4 - The SLOB’s

If you ladies haven’t checked out the men of our very own San Diego Local Order of Bloggers, then you are missing out some seriously sexy brain power. There is something for everyone from Christian Conservative, to vegan Libertarian, to Atheist Objectivist, to irreverent sports, beer, law, theology econ and I.T. guru’s. But sorry, ladies, all but one of our fine authors is married, so you are going to have to mud wrestle for the last single, free-thinking man in Southern California.

#2 - "Disabled" Vets

I cannot possibly imagine what it’s like to survive the horrific injuries that befall our men and women in uniform. But when you see one of these vets with a leg (or more) missing and they’re working out, raising their families and taking on life, it takes your breath away. Any man who can lose an entire body part (or more), dust himself off and keep going…he’s a survivor. And that appeals not only on a base Darwinian level, but on a highly spiritual one as well. Off the charts sexy.

#1 - Hard Working Men

Our number one spot includes some of our previous choices…men who understand that it’s not about loving your job, but loving the reason you have a job. They are the sexiest men of all time. And in this economy, it means more than ever. Having a bachelor’s in business but holding down three part time jobs because that’s what’s available. The father who is learning to be Mr. Mom because his wife still has a job with some healthcare benefits. Real men doing real work and not whining about it…SEXXXXXY.

So to my amazing husband who straps on 40 lbs. of body armor and equipment to head out and deal with the worst elements of society…and all the other men who roll out to work each day with their heads held high…honest to God, there isn’t a single Hollywood pretty boy who can hold a candle to you.

P.S. I’m sure the Goddess at Temple of Mut will agree with me, we would like to award an Honorable Mention to the Hell on Wheels lead character, Cullen Bohannon. Do NOT want to know what Anson Mount is like in person. Just keep playing the tormented hero bent on avenging the brutal murder of his wife and son. A time tested plot devise that gets us every time.

Word is that Jenny Beth Martin of the Tea Party Patriots is steering the umbrella organization into co-sponsoring a GOP presidential debate with the Southern Republican Leadership Conference…on CNN. WTF?!!

Uh...for anyone who’s conveniently forgotten, the tea party began as a reaction to the crappy job the GOP was doing representing the interests of the taxpayers. Playing footsie with them corrupts our roll as a platform for ALL taxpayers.

And who in their right mind wants to see ANOTHER debate? Makes TPP look even more out of touch that the Republican Party.

Jenny Beth, take a vacation from all those trips to DC…the Potomac is polluting your judgment.

Federal Law Ignored in Mark Meckler's Arrest?

OK, folks, so yesterday I shared the story about Mark Meckler being arrested in New York’s LaGuardia airport for possessing a firearm and ammo in a locked case...while declaring it to the check-in agent. Gun and ammo in locked case = good enough for the TSA...class C felony with New York Port Authority.

And something about all this just seemed off. So off to Google I go...and one, yes, just one, search of “New York Gun Laws About Transporting Firearms” led me to this very helpful link at the NRA where I read the following...

“...A provision of the federal law known as the Firearms Owners` Protection Act, or FOPA, protects those who are transporting firearms for lawful purposes from local restrictions which would otherwise prohibit passage....

...Under FOPA, notwithstanding any state or local law, a person is entitled to transport a firearm from any place where he or she may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he or she may lawfully possess and carry it, if the firearm is unloaded and locked out of reach...”

Really!!? I’ve been a gun owner for years and didn’t know this FEDERAL protection existed (not that we take firearms over state lines regularly).

The good folks at the NRA also include this helpful tip...

“...Special Advisory for New York and New Jersey Airports: Despite federal law that protects travelers, authorities at JFK, La Guardia, Newark and Albany airports have been known to enforce state and local firearms laws against airline travelers who are merely passing through the jurisdiction. In some cases, even persons traveling in full compliance with federal law have been arrested or threatened with arrest...”

Let me see if I have this straight...New York and New Jersey law enforcement agencies think its ok to thumb their noses at Federal law protecting civil liberties.
But wait! There’s more...

“...some state and local governments treat this federal provision as an "affirmative defense" that may only be raised after an arrest... “

So lets recap. Federal law exists to protect travelers in ‘temporary transit” with firearms from local gun laws as long as a weapon is locked and out of reach. New York Port Authority police have an alleged pattern of arresting travelers anyway...including Mark Meckler...all the while knowing the charges won’t hold. Hmm.

Might scare law abiding citizens from lawfully transporting a firearm through New York to avoid the hassle. Wonder how this is going to go over now that they’ve tried to bully a full-time activist who earns a living promoting Constitutional Liberties?

Oh, and one more thing...notice that NONE of the news agencies are talking about the Firearms Owners Protection Act...not one. I’m a housewife with a slow satellite connection, kids spun up on Christmas and a sinus infection, if I can find this info in two minutes I have to wonder what the hell is going on in these news rooms.

TPP's Mark Meckler Arrested at NY Airport...For Carrying Gun in LOCKED Case

** BE SURE TO READ THE LATEST UPDATE on how New York authorities are ignoring the FEDERAL Firearms Owners' Protection Act in the arrest of Meckler. **

You may have already heard the news that Mark Meckler, Co-Founder of Tea Party Patriots, was arrested at LaGuardia Airport today, but no one sums up the facts it better than alleged Felon himself...

“So...yes...I did get arrested at La Guardia today for carrying a perfectly legal, registered, unloaded handgun in temporary transit in a locked, TSA approved case. The fun began when I declared it to the ticketing agent, and asked for the appropriate form, per procedure, from her. I've done this all across the country, more times than I can count.

It is an outrage against liberty...and we'll be fighting it. It's been one heck of a day, and I appreciate all the outpouring of support. Sitting in there all day today, the idea of liberty deprived becomes much more than a theoretical one. It ups my passion for what we do a thousand times over. It is almost impossible to explain how it felt, on so many levels.

Here's the official statement. I'm afraid I can't say a lot more because it's a pending legal matter and I have to follow the lawyers instructions. But there was no way I wasn't going to reach out to you guys personally.

"Mark Meckler, an attorney and National Coordinator for Tea Party Patriots, who holds a concealed-carry permit from the state of California, today was charged with a firearms violation at LaGuardia Airport in New York City. While in temporary transit through the state of New York in possession of an unloaded, lawful firearm that was locked in a TSA-approved safe, he legally declared his possession of the firearm in his checked baggage at the ticket counter as required by law and in a manner approved by TSA and the airline, yet was arrested by port authority for said possession."

Any support you can provide in response to blog items etc., is greatly appreciated. This is a perfect example of our liberties under attack.

And for anyone who wants to know, here is the OFFICIAL TSA POLICY FOR CHECKING A FIREARM ONTO AN AIRPLANE

The Port Authority says he was arrested because possession of an unloaded firearm AND ammunition in a LOCKED case is the equivalent of carrying a loaded weapon...

I’m no gun law specialist, but is this really the logic in New York? Do you have to carry your ammo in a separate locked case? Or is owning and gun AND ammunition illegal? Cause we’re in opposite world here and I just want to know the rules.

San Diego PD Protect Port from Occupy Blockade...so far

About 9am, I'm watchin the Occupy San Diego Livestream, and so far San Diego PD is keeping the port open by restricing protesters to the sidewalk (South Entrance).

UPDATE: Despite pleading with truck drivers to honor the protest, they are streaming into the port...to earn a paycheck. Livestream confirms 3 arrests so far.

UPDATE 2: Livestream has been down for a while. Occupy Wall Street tweeted that their equipment has been confiscated by the police. I can only assume that is why the San Diego feed is down. Alternative SDO livestream is also not working. Weather may be a factor. OSD Twitter and FB pages aren't being updated with much intel. Looks like Oakland and Portland Ports have been shut down (not surprisingly)...but there are indications that police plan to move into Oakland protest en-mass. Sounds like Long Beach/Los Angeles remain mostly open. No word from any of the Hawaiian ports. No word from inland blockade actions.

UPDATE 3: Occupy San Diego twitter feed announing that the blockade will contiue tomorrow...big surprise.

UPDATE 4: Update VIA FREEREPUBLIC:

"SAN DIEGO — Five Occupy San Diego protesters were arrested downtown Monday morning as they took part in an effort to shut down the Port of San Diego, port authorities said.

About 80 people who had marched from Chicano Park to the Tenth Avenue Marine Port about 6:30 a.m. divided into groups and blocked entry at the north and south gates, Port of San Diego spokesman Ron Powell said.

Group organizers put the number of people participating at 150 to 200.

Police declared the group was an unlawful assembly and ordered it to disperse.

Protesters were warned around 7:30 a.m. that they would be arrested if they did not move and about an hour later the demonstrators who would not vacate the streets were taken into custody, Powell said.

Those arrested face charges of failing to disperse and obstructing a police officer, authorities said.

Harbor police Assistant Chief Mark Stainbrook said the port was shut down about an hour and 15 minutes. Trucks that were forced to turn around at Harbor Drive and Cesar Chavez Parkway were eventually admitted about 9 a.m., Stainbrook said."

"We decided to check out the Occupy San Diego protests outdoor hipster convention at the 10th Avenue Marine Terminal this cold and drizzly morning.

Around about 30-40 Occupiers at 10 A.M.. There were probably as many if not more SDPD.

A lot of general milling around and some sloganeering but the main effort appeared to be crossing and re-crossing the street...

... because they sure as heck weren't stemming the flow of commerce....

...All in all, pretty uneventful.

P.S. Didn't see any union types. Mainly 20-somethings split pretty evenly gender-wise, and, yeah, very white."

Occupy San Diego to Shut Down Port Dec. 12th

Anyone remember when the Longshoremen went on strike in 2002, shortly after 9/11? Shutting down our ports was a painful kick in the teeth to our already fragile economy. Everything from oil to bananas was stranded off our coast for weeks. Big corporations may have felt the pain a bit, but it was main street and working families that suffered in the wake of supply shortages and price instability.

And it looks like port workers are threatening to strike again...just when we are hurting most.

So the brain donors over at Occupy think that the best way to stick it to Wall Street and help the 99% is to blockade all the West Coast ports starting December 12.

Of course Occupy San Diego wants to join the fun: “These Ports are public. People have a right to come to the Port and protest. The ILWU has historically honored picket lines at the Port.’ said Clarence Thomas, a member of ILWU Local 10. ILWU is a union and Longshore workers are involved as individuals in the planning of the Shutdown.”

(Um, since when are the ports 'public"? Maybe in a security-line-at-the-airport kind of way)

There is inconsistent reporting on whether or not the chapters of ILWU’s plan to formally participate...but obviously Occupy is poised to make themselves look like the puppet masters behind any formal strike by the unions.

Bring it. Should do wonders for Obama’s 2012 prospects.

Occupy Escondido Just Luuuuuuvs Starbucks

About 10:30 this morning I was walking into the Escondido Starbucks next to Target off West Valley Pkwy to pick up a few gift cards for Christmas. I could not help but overhear a rather gregarious gentleman on his cell phone seated outside announce, “I’m with Occupy Escondido and I was told....” I couldn’t make out the rest of what he said, but he seemed to be in a pretty jolly mood.

Forgive me, but I can’t help but wonder if he might have been giddy about the fake bomb that was planted at Congressman Darrell Issa’s office at yesterday’s Occupy protest. But I digress...

As I was leaving I noticed the same man seated in a newer looking Chevy...not the bumper sticker riddled beater car or duct tape enhanced bicycle one would expect for a leader of the movement.

Kinda wondering why Mr. Occupy chose Starbucks instead of family-owned Safari Coffee on El Norte Pkwy...or why he’s driving a new car from a company that took one of the biggest Crony bail-outs ever...or why he enjoys that Capitalism produced cell phone so much.

I think Adam Corolla can explain it (via Beers With Demo...scroll down for video) better than I can...

P.S. An unconfirmed eyewitness at yesterday's protest claimes the fake bomb was a jug of fluid covered in wires and duct tape...the fluid turned out to be urine. Yep.

Occupy San Diego Intimidate Walmart Shoppers on Black Friday

What better way to recruit the downtrodden of the 99% than by ruining their best chance to purchase affordable shoes, toys, appliances and clothing...at least that’s what the wing-nuts over at Occupy San Diego think. They filled 75 carts full of product, blocked the check-out aisles, chanted about the evils of low-priced shopping, and left their mess for the shoppers to weave through and employees to clean up. The good folks at Gateway Pundit have a full transcript of the video HERE.

If you take the time to actually watch the video, you’ll notice that NONE of the actual Walmart shoppers or employees join in the asinine chanting.

And, as a mother, what horrifies me most, is how they boxed in families during the stunt. One mother with a stroller, a small boy and a baby in her arms, has no where to go. If that was me, I would have been angry and terrified. One wrong move by anyone in that crowd and things would have turned dangerous in a flash.

Thanks to Beers with Demo, we know his isn’t the first or last time Occupiers have terrorized children.

So, good job Occupy...insult and intimidate your ‘base,’ impede affordable shopping, and scare mommies. You’re on your way to a sweeping pop-culture victory (insert eye roll here).

Broccoli Cheddar Soup...to die for!

All politics and no play makes mommie a grumpy girl...or in my case, food, glorious, size 6 girls have no idea what they're missing, food. So from now on I will be sprinkling my posts with chow finds too good not to share.

And I can think of no better way to kick off this new tradition than with a recipe for Broccoli Cheddar Soup I found via Pinterest (yes, I've fallen down that rabbit hole). I tried it out tonight, and even though I over browned the onions, it came out UNBELIEVABLY GOOD...Panera good. I'm not kidding.

And I'm pretty sure it violates ALL of Michelle Obama's new healthful food guidelines, so you'll be doing your patriotic duty by indulging in all that saturated fat.

Occupy San Diego Sets Up Camp @ the Fed Building (UPDATED)

It's the first really nice sunny, warm day we've had here in San Diego for a couple weeks...and Occupy is making the most of it! Evicted from the Civic Center yesterday, they've decided to up the ante by heading to the Federal Building to set up a new tent city.

And it looks like they officially have the attention of Homeland Security...

* UPDATE * Looks like Occupy San Diego is also trying to take over the Clairmont Dr. Bridge. It's unclear if they are looking to block traffic or just be highly visible...but gut instinct inclines me to expect the latter...

** UPDATE #2 ** Watching the live video feed. Occupyers are in fact blocking traffic in one direction (looks like the west bound side). They're trying to distract the freeway motorists below. Police are present but not trying to shoo them off. They are very proud of 'taking over' the bridge...bet all 99% working folk trying to get home appreciate their commute being ruined. Loraina (sp?) Gonzales of the San Diego Labor Board is pressing the flesh. She's promising to bring food down to tonights Fed Building occupation.

Good O'll Barry trying to decide who should be successful and who shouldn't. In this case he's rooting for the tree farmers (which should piss off the tree huggers...although christmas trees are one of the most environmentally friendly crops out there due to low harvest frequency...but I digress). So he wants to tax the people who buy real trees to...sell...more, wait, what?

I'm buying a real tree this year, as I always do, because I LIKE THEM BETTER. I don't need a PSA to tell me it's wonderful to have the smell and visual interest of a real plant in my home. But I'm certainly not going hate on those of you who like your plastic trees. They're easy. And sometimes a little bit of easy can make all the difference between Happy Holidays and Mommie checking herself into therapy.

Yesterday we reported on the less-than-organized “Occupy Escondido” rally organized by what appear to be non-Escondido residents. Well, today’s North County Times sheds even more light on the Who of this merry band.

Remember last weeks story about Oceanside City Councilwoman, Esther Sanchez, having to fire her aid, Kyle Krahel-Frolander, for organizing Occupy Oceanside event(s)? Well, now that he’s got more time on his hands, he’s showing off his bleached, Harvard coiffe here in Esco. Pic HERE.

(Trying to) Occupy Escondido

Local paper warned us there would be an Occupy Escondido rally today at 9am...starting, where else? Starbucks.

The plan was to march to various big banks downtown and shame locals into moving their accounts to smaller banks and credit unions. That’s right, they are promoting free market competition. My buddy W.C. has more on this here. But I digress.

So, I’m thinking, leftist anti-establishment rally in blue-collar Conservative Escondido...I gotta see this. I head down about noon to search them out. I don’t worry about being late because it’s “Occupy”...they’ll at least try to be there all day, right?

But alas, they were no where to be found. Not at B of A. Not at Chase or Wells Fargo. Not in front of City Hall. And not at the Homeless HQ formerly known as Grape Day Park adjacent City Hall. To be honest, I was disappointed. I really wanted to see if they could muster up even half as many folks as the anti-checkpoint crowd (who at least have a defined CAUSE).

Turns out, I really was late...and early. Some out-of-town carpet bagging Occupy turf squatters planned this little shindig to last from 9-11am (um, why call it Occupy, then?). And the actual Escondido Occupy group scheduled their event for 1pm tomorrow...only the liberal North County Times reporter missed the memo.

And if this isn’t sad enough....none of these navel-gazers (thank you, Goddess) know the first thing about Escondido...like the fact that almost NOTHING is open downtown on a Saturday. Especially not most of the banks. The only people they are impacting are the homeless who are very territorial this time of year.

This is running long, but I would like to offer a small PSA. I choose not to belong to any of the big banks. Instead hubbie and I belong to First Republic who offer warm cookies and upholstered seating for all bank transactions....and...drumroll, please.......NO ATM FEES...and...REIMBURSEMENT FOR ALL OTHER BANK ATM FEES. That’s right...take two minutes to shop around and competitive capitalism offers wonderful CHOICES for free thinking grown-ups.

So, I apologize for not getting pictures. But I hear there will be a next time...at Starbucks.

Act Like Men...Or Get Out.

Much has been said lately about the “in-fighting” amongst Republicans for the heart of the Party. Many elected officials and Party leaders plead, “We have to stop attacking each other, we must come together, the Democrats don’t do this, wah, wah, wah.” Typical Republican wimp-out.

So Colin Powell and the R.I.N.O.‘s can run around and proclaim that the era of Reagan is dead and that we need to abandon our principles. But we Conservatives? We’re supposed to shut up and let Olympia Snow support Obamacare without a fuss. Or let Mary Bono support Cap & Trade without protest. Or sit idly by as the Governor of California announce he, “is happy” to continue providing free college education to illegal immigrants...all in the name of party harmony.

But in case anyone noticed, the more Republican’s act like 20th Century Democrats, the more seats are lost to the Left. Out of disgust, the silent majority stopped showing up to vote. And the middle can’t tell the difference between the parties...except that Democrats have shinier logos and better websites, so hey, go with the guys who look cooler, right? We’re so far in the hole, we have nothing to lose by fighting the R.I.N.O.‘s, Moderates and Democrats...and everything to gain by actually standing for something.

This President is deliberately burning this economy to the ground in order to rebuild it in his own Marxist image. The Constitution is being shredded. The press is a de-facto state agency. I want the GOP and it’s elected officials to STAND UP AND FIGHT! This is supposed to be the home of support of a strong military, of Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan. Act like warriors! And for God’s sake, act like actual men! Groveling to look like we get along with everyone is undignified, and I’m sick of it.

I don’t want to hear about whether or not we should walk precincts with Blackberries or, or, how much we have to give up on certain states and districts because they are un-winable. If the Democrats can take Iowa and Colorado, we can take back California, and Los Angeles, and Southern San Diego and every other formerly Red territory. This is war...and want the GOP to act like it.

Didn’t anybody notice the collective “Hooray!” when Spector finally left the Republican Party? Can you imagine the cheers if Schwarzenegger finally admitted he is a Democrat at heart? Or the roar of approval if all the R.I.N.O.’s were somehow excommunicated from the GOP? Get a clue.

Enough with worrying whether Nancy Pelosi, or the press or Colin Powell approves. Enough with worrying if it looks like we are fighting amongst each other. WE ARE. I want my Party back, and I don’t care who hears about it. Maybe when “they” see us fighting about what Republicans stands for, they’ll think we actually give a damn again.

The REAL Significance of the Tea Parties

So, by now we've all seen footage of the nation wide Tea Parties that rallied fiscal Conservatives this weekend. For most of us it was our first political protest ever.

And THAT is the significant outcome of the Tea Party movement.

Too long we have been invisible. Sure, we'll call our Congressman or Senators to voice an opinion on this issue or that. But we don't attend protests, or put bumper stickers on our cars, or even talk about politics if strangers are within ear shot. Somehow that kind of public political behavior seems inappropriate...even immature. Which would be fine if the Left weren't COMPLETELY committed to being visible at all times.

Pop culture is unaware that Conservatives even exist anymore.

BUT THEY'RE WRONG. We're not extinct, we're not even a beaten down minority. We are the vast majority of the average American workers, entrepreneurs, and families.

The sleeping bear has been woken and we're ready to fight...even if that means we have to throw our own turn-coat R.I.N.O Republicans out of office in the process.

Also important is the news outlets bothered to cover the Tea Parties. I don't care whether or not they tried to be accurate or nice. They helped spread the word. I can't tell you how many people I've heard from who would have attended the Tea Parties if they'd known they were happening. So now they too are joining Face Book, and searching out the networking blogs.

This weekend was a baby step. But an important one. Connections are being made and the word is spreading. The quiet majority is in motion. Obama will be able to enact many of his outrageous spending plans and socialist agendas before we are loud enough to have an impact. And don't get me started that liar, Shwarzenegger!!! But we'll get there. Bears are tenacious.

A word about the San Diego Tea Party Revolt...

All I can say is...it was GREAT! Dawn Wildman did an amazing job organizing everything, even on very, very short notice. All the local media came. The location was excellent, everyone stayed on message, attendance was double what was expected (we all ran out of fliers!), folks brought the BEST signs, enthusiasm was high, and the icing on the cake was that the vast majority of cars driving by honked in support the entire hour...especially the cabs! I could go on and on. My hands were full with two toddlers, so I'm sorry I don't have good pictures!

Is there room to improve? Sure. That's what this was all about. And if novices to the political protest scene can organize this well on a week's notice, image what we can do next time (especially on a Saturday!).

Be On The Lookout For Tea Parties

By now you’ve watched or heard Rick Santelli’s inspiring rant on the moral and economic injustices of Obama’s never ending redistribution plans. And as a result, plans for Tea Parties are popping up across the nation.

It’s a truly Yungian moment. Hard working people everywhere are reaching the limit of what they will quietly tolerate from this still very new administration. These new policies and spending tactics are so extreme there is no room for the obligatory, “Just give him a chance.”

The Tea Party Revolts/Gatherings are still in the planning stages, and very little in terms of specifics have really come out. But they are happening everywhere...and there seems to be a consensus that they need to happen soon. So be particularly attentive to the on-line chatter and be prepared to respond on short notice.

We need to be heard, we need to be visible. Show up...bring your signs...wear your shirts...know what you are going to say to the press on the chance they question you. This is just the beginning.

To celebrate the signing of the abomination disguised as a "stimulus" bill, I thought it might be time to remember a bit of clarity and wisdom from Margaret Thatcher,

Obviously Obama and the thugs on Capitol Hill are either so inept that they don't get it, or so corrupt they don't care that this house of cards will come crashing down in ways that can only cost us for generations to come.

Bright Spot in a Frustrating Week

Amid the endless fanfare of the Inauguration and more announcements of useless bailouts, President George Bush has finally, finally...f I n a l l y, at the last possible moment, commuted the sentences of U.S. Border Patrol Agents, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.

The long list of injustices perpetrated against these agents by the Federal Prosecutor, Johnny Sutton, the Inspector General, Border Patrol Chief Aguilar, and others reads like a conspiracy novel. And President Bush's loyalty and faith in long time friend, Sutton, and reluctance to pardon the agents, has been a black mark on his presidency since this fiasco was brought to light by Sara A. Carter of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. If not for the remarkable investigative reporting she conducted shortly after the Ramos/Compean trial, we might never have seen the public outcry and political momentum that made this commutation possible.

As the wife of a police officer this story has long troubled me. Law enforcement officers are all too often the pawns of public officials who wish to progress any number of political agendas. When I see the Ramos & Compean families, I see my own and all the horrible things that could happen if the wrong politician wants to "make a point" at our expense.

The most amazing part of this story is the strength of the Ramos & Compean families. They never gave up, they never stopped fighting.

And the second most amazing part is that we as Americans never forgot about them. In this day and age of news cycles that last a few days to a week, at most, memories are short and causes temporary. Through the ongoing work of The families, Sara A. Carter, House Republicans, Grassfire.org, talk radio, and many, many other grass roots efforts, the American public stayed informed and put ongoing pressure on Congress and the President to free these unjustly tried, public servants. Considering how loyal and unchangeable President Bush can be to issues, this is by no means a small feat...in fact it's quite monumental.

Being visible, vigilant, and vocal can make a difference. Keep your Congressman's number on the refrigerator, write letters to the editor, blog, wear your t-shirts, and put stickers on your car. Let "them" know you are out there.

And say a prayer for the Ramos & Compean families.

Live the Golden Rule

It's been a while, sick kids, Holidays, you know how it is! But I haven't stopped following events at home a abroad.

Which brings me to The Golden Rule. We all learned it as kids and it just never stops being meaningful. All major world religions have their own version. Norman Rockwell created the MOST beautiful painting on the topic. But as adults I think its often a lost philosophy. It's so easy to get into a cycle of self-protection that the perspective of others is lost...and sometimes intentionally.

Take recent actions of our benevolent House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi. According the Connie Hair at Human Events, "... Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation...Pelosi’s rule changes -- which may be voted on today -- will reverse the fairness rules that were written around Newt Gingrich’s 'Contract with America.'"

I guess only House Democrats are supposed to be heard. So much for Democrats being the party in inclusion and tolerance. But we know this is just one in a long, long laundry list of inconsistencies, hypocrisies, and down-right injustices handed out by Dem party leadership. We know that the "Fairness Doctrine" is on it's way soon as well. I doubt most average-Joe Liberals leading their normal lives would be very proud of Pelosi's iron-fisted move.

I think most folks who TRULY live by the Gold Rule are actually Conservatives, whether they realize it or not. Tolerance, live-and-let-live, love thy neighbor (or at least leave him alone!), these are all underlying principals of Conservativism. Everyone has a right to live their own lives according to their own faith, dreams and goals. I'll respect your rights as long as you respect mine.

With all the turmoil in the Middle East and battling in Washington, I know The Golden Rule might seem like a simple, idealistic topic. But we have to stick to our roots. We can't let "them" distract us from what we are.

Conservative IS the “Center”

All this talk during the election about attracting the moderates and undecides got me thinking…how does one define the center of the political spectrum? How does that help one win an election?

I think a lot of the problem Republican leadership has had is they keep thinking in 20th century terms. In other words, that the spectrum is traditional American issues & values. But Democrats & Liberals moved on from that point of view at least 10 years ago. The paradigm has shifted. They see the global picture and view borders and national identity as technicalities. They believe in world community and that government should be centralized on a global scale.

We see this over and over with their yearning to emulate Europe, their efforts to hand over authority to the UN and the World Court, and this obsession with “what the world thinks.” Thus, they keep moving further and further left, trying to position themselves for power in the New World Government they believe is inevitable.

So where does Conservativism fit into all this? Relative to world politics…right in The Middle.

Conservativism is the balancing point between individual freedoms and government authority.

It is the philosophy of tolerating all religions, and living peacefully next to each other, even if we don’t agree.

It is mid point of women’s rights and freedom…between the extreme sexual “freedom” and family degradation of the left, and the subservient underclass status of conservative Islam and third world cultures.

As the world grows smaller, Conservativism needs to be a beacon to those who cherish the right to choose their own life path. And if Republicans can realize this, and stop chasing leftist policy, the party will become the large umbrella to all groups of people it has long desired.

There are others who can articulate this better than me, and I’d love to hear from you.

For now I’ll do my part with this new design and maybe it will make someone in the middle stop and think:

"Simple" Sells

True story: my husband is a police officer and got a radio call Saturday night for a loud party. When he arrived about 8pm there was a large party at a home in a residential neighborhood, complete with a professional D.J. He tells the homeowner to shut off the music, that 6 neighbors have complained and that if they don’t comply he will be back to site them and confiscate the D.J.’s equipment. The homeowner was indignant…felt it was her “right” to have a party. It was explained that yes, he can have a party…but there is no Constitutional right to a LOUD party…disturbing the neighbors, and ruining their weekends. To this the homeowner pronounced, “I can’t wait…on January 20th Obama will be our president and there’s gonna be change. Just wait.”

Change? Really? Does anyone think this person has the foggiest idea what actual, specific “change” is supposed to take place? That all her hopes and dreams of behaving any way she wishes will suddenly come true? Do any of us know? Conservatives think we do because we’ve analyzed his voting record, resume of friends and early White House staffing. But specifics from Obama himself are elusive.

The point is that this whole “change” business was marketing gold. It was simple and people attached any meaning they wanted to it. It was the little black dress of this election…worked for everyone. Simple sells.

And Conservatives & Republicans HAVE to wrap their heads around this. Full essays on philosophical fundaments are important and have their place. But it’s all too much for your average Undecided. For a lot of people it’s hard to trust something that is lengthy and complicated to explain. There is something instinctive about Truth being easily visible. We have to condense our ideal and message into obvious, digestible portions.

What will our message be? Will the RNC even listen?

And as trite as it sounds, if you can’t read it off a t-shirt, regular folks might not bother to listen either. Lead by example…show the world what you think. Have a meaningful bumper sticker on your car when you visit the homeless shelter to help on Thanksgiving, or drop off donations at the food bank, etc, etc. Plant seeds….

I see one of the key issues to winning the hearts and minds of America in the next elections is communicating clear, meaningful contrasts between Conservative philosophy and the Democratic agenda. The Republican Party has been so bullied by the myth of multi-culturalism and bi-partisanship that it has stopped standing for anything…can we say “Liberal-lite”?

Voters need something to vote FOR. Reagan Conservativism was so simple, profound, and understandable. Those messages and more have to be rearticulated.

A key contrast is Individual Freedom. Obama and the Democratic leadership all over this country is pushing for “fairness” “shared prosperity” & “the greater good.” To each according to his ability, to each according to his need.

We are in great danger of losing our individual rights and freedoms. No more keeping most of what you earn, no more having a real voice with the first amendment, no more truly owning property. Our children will be ordered to “volunteer.” Euphemisms for redistribution will and do abound.

I haven’t hashed out all my thoughts and strategy on how to communicate the importance the unique freedoms we have enjoyed for so long in this great nation. But I wanted to get the “contrast” idea out to you folks…to plant a seed with the hopes that it will grow and we will find the right voice…so that we can protect our voice.

What a day in the News! There are SO many topics I could talk about…Paulson going back on the original TARP plan (nice anachronism by the way…have to poke fun at it later), Liberals slandering African Americans for voting for Prop 8, gay protesters picking on old women, the Dow’s crazy surge…just too much to choose from!

But for the moment I need to stay on message and focus on Republican and Conservative visibility. A big key to this is finding each other first. Some of the establishment websites and social networks are groggy, dated, and awkward to maneuver. I can’t even get permission to network at the RNC site…something I’ll get into another day.

But the new crop of blogs, Facebook pages, etc. that have popped up since the election are a sign of the coming tsunami of grass roots mobilization. EVERYONE wants the party to hear them…everyone wants focus, change, and a return to Reagan fundamentals.

Today I found one site in particular that is near and dear to my design efforts: Read My Lipstick Network. The host is trying to network those of us who consider themselves Lipstick Republicans (the Lipstick Republican design I created just after the convention has been wildly popular…beyond anything I really could have predicted…but I’ll get into that another time…let’s just say I think Carl Jung is a genius). I’m really excited to find this kind of site...she’s not waiting for the RNC to bring us together, she’s doing something about it herself. And people are responding.

This is exactly what has to happen…heck you couldn’t stop it if you wanted to! Finding each other is the first step in realizing it’s ok to show the world who you are. That you aren’t the only one who thinks a strong military is the path to peace. That keeping what you earn isn’t selfish. That America is a great country.

Do something today. Put a bumper sticker on your car. Wear a political t-shirt. Let others know you are out there!

It’s Up To Us Now…

As much as the 2008 election was a heartbreak to lose, can any of us who are truly conservative be surprised? What did John McCain and “reach-across-the-aisle” moderate Republicans really give America to vote FOR? Slightly less liberal policies?

So it’s time to take the party back. It’s time to get back on message. Real conservatives survived this election, and a real conservative will win back the White House in 2012. My bet is it will be Sarah Palin. And if not, it will be someone like her.

So what do we do to help make this happen? We have to start being proud of our values. Stop being so polite and subtle about conservatism. It’s under attack. And moderates and undecided's have no idea how many of us there are out there. We are poorly branded and no one wants to wear the mostly lame graphics that are produced for Republicans and Conservatives.

So as an artist I’m out to help change that. I’m beginning work on a young, hip, fashionable line of designs that will initially be sold at Café Press. While I do obviously wish to profit from all this and save up a down payment for a home (my babies are fast outgrowing our tiny rental), what I really want to do is spread the word. To let people know that we are out there and it’s ok be conservative. We’re not bigots, racists, homophobes, uneducated, zealots, or any of the other ugly stereotypes the Left tries to paint us with. We are normal, hard working American’s who believe in individual freedom and the original intent of the Bill of Rights.

I will also link to other artist that I believe are creating relevant, important designs. We are all in this together!
